"In Backyard a child play-yard is fused with a hermit's retreat. This combining of the contemporary world with an art world of the past aestheticizes my unhappy childhood.
The poet Cavafy's use of the great ancient city of Alexandria as a mirror equivalent of this emotive life influenced my wish to find a visual way to do the same thing. Time thus becomes an ever-present in this process of montaging a means of blurring the visual mediums used to achieved it."
