Morimura is famous for his self-portraits, fusing the author and the subject. Thanks to a combination of talent and use of technological means he is able to completely dissolve the boundaries between male and female genders and between Eastern and Western worlds. Morimura can turn himself into western female icons, being Self-portrait, (Actress) After Sylvia Kristel, 1998, a famous instance of his ability of doing so.
